2011 Reading Challenge - Join Me??

2011 Reading Challenge officially begins. What will be your goal for this year? Since I easily surpassed by 75 books last year, I am going to go for 80 books this year. Trying to remain realistic, as I have plenty of other goals this year - like write and edit more, and read more non-fiction (that takes longer than fiction), so I think 80 should do it.

I will continue recording my 2011 Books Read list on this blog, as I did last year. But for personal use, I keep my faithful spreadsheet, which has more details than what I put on this blog. I know spreadsheets are not everyone's thing - but for me, it still remains most effective and fun (yes - I appreciate spreadsheets and fun don't usually go together, but I am weird about them) :P

Are you going to keep a list of books you read this year? How do you plan to do that?

  1. Ooh, thanks for the reminder! ;)

Last year I managed 30, which was less than I wanted but still an improvement on the previous year. Also, some of them were BIG books lol ;-)

This year I'd like to read more, but I'm not setting a target. I'm starting the year with the uncut version of The Stand, so it may be a while before I hit book two... ;)

  2. Last year I reached 119, and my goal for this year is 150. I use Goodreads. I already created a shelf for Books-Read-2011.

    Happy New Year!

  3. Last year my goal was 52 and I managed 82, so this year I'm setting my goal at 80, with the caveat that I read a greater variety, not 80% romance like last year.

Though I have a book blog to keep track of what I'm reading, I kept forgetting to update it, so I think I'll use a spreadsheet too this year.

  4. Good luck with your reading challenge! I met my goal of reading 100 YA and MG books in 2010 but I don't think I'll increase it for this year. It's a good number for me. You have to be realistic about what will work.

  5. Great goals everyone. Hope you meet them - but most importantly, just remember to enjoy the reading :-)) Stories are more important than numbers.

    Happy Reading!

  6. I was aiming for 52 in 2010 and ended up with 47. I'm going to aim for 52 again, but hopefully I'll surpass that.

  7. I didn't quite make 100 last year, so I think I'll go for a bit less this year. 85 seems doable.

I think I'll steal Medeia's idea, and create a "read in 2011" shelf at Goodreads. That seems to be an easy way for me to keep track.

Good luck with your goal this year! :-)

  8. I find myself not at all up-to-date on Goodreads, so I am sticking to my spreadsheet.

Is anyone making a list of what books they are going to read? Or whatever comes along?

I think I will make a partial list - though it's bound to change.

  9. I would guess I read several hundred books last year. I think I'll join your challenge this year!

  10. I've made some Writing-Reading-Designing-Art-gaols for 2011! Have a look:
    Goodbye 2010. Welcome 2011.

And THIS year I join your Reading Challenge! I decided to start with 52 books and see how everything develops. Inspired by your list I keep a record of my reading progress. I'm also playing with the thought of writing some reviews/notes on some of the books. Then I'll have to find out, how to connect with Goodreads or Amazon. Well, we'll see! :-)

  11. As Nofretiri, I've set myself the goal of 52 books. Mostly because I realized that I have plenty of classics pending and some of them are really thick books, so I think that this is a realistic goal for me.

I also want to dive into genres I don't usually read. All in all, I want to enter new worlds and new ways of storytelling :) And yes, GoodReads is a non-brainer for the matter :)

  12. Wyoming,

several hundred books? Wow!! That's amazing. I would love to do that.

    Nofretiri,

Enjoy reading. Always best to start with a goal you know you can meet but challenges you slightly, then you can always do more.

Happy Reading, Carlos. Enjoy your classics, and dive into new genres. I heartily recommend reading widely.
