Procrastinating - CAN'T STOP

It's 15:11. I have been up for over six hours, and haven't written anything. I have a plan to work on several short pieces this weekend, and continue planning the novel. I've got the files open with the short pieces. I look at them. I read them. Then I stop. It is so incredibly frustrating. I don't really know why. In some ways that is the good thing when writing a first draft of a book - it's one continuous story, and so you keep going. But with shorter pieces, I find it much harder. September has been over all disaster in terms of productivity. I really want last little bit of this month to be different. Just thought I would rant publicly a bit. Now, I will attempt to get something useful out of this day. After I scream a bit. Or A LOT.

    Short pieces are so much...different to write than novels - I might even go so far as to say they take a different sort of thinking. But the nice thing is, you can just write whatever comes to mind, and know that anything you have to fix is in a much shorter format, so the holes won't be quite so daunting on the edit.

    So that's what I generally do with shorts - just write, write, write, and fix it later. Try not to think so hard about it. :-)

    Urgh, I'm having issues with actually sitting down to write, too. I'm just trying to put all thoughts of "good writing" out of my mind and just get to work. Good luck to you, and try not to be so hard on yourself. :)

    I was the same way yesterday - I had two different word processing programs open, several documents, and . . . nada. Couldn't even manage to write any poetry.

    I don't know why shorter pieces are sometimes harder to write than longer ones, but I agree, it can be very frustrating!

    Just wanted to thank you for popping into my blog yesterday. I was interested reading your posts. I've struggled for years maintaining a journal although I find holiday journals easy to do daily - probably because they are of a finite duration. I write lots of poetry and have just started an art journal - in amongst other creativity. Good luck with your writing.
