First Paid Publication in Print Magazine

I have got my first PAID print credit :) Okay, so it's a reader's letter - not as satisfying as having a short story - but it's a Letter of the Week. And more importantly, I get £25 for it.
It's even more exciting because I had a personal wish of wanting to be paid for writing, any writing, before my next birthday. My birthday is in 3 weeks, so excellent timing.
My Letter of the Week is in Women's Weekly's latest issue of 21/04. Wow...never thought I would be so excited about a letter.

  1. Thanks. Now, next goal - get a short story published.

  2. You may well already know of it, but just in case: www.duotrope.com is a great site for short story markets.

It's got a handy search engine for narrowing down the field, and you can use it to keep track of your submissions too. :)

  3. Thanks. I knew about the website, but I didn't know about the tracking. I will check it out properly.

  4. Dude!! CONGRATS!! Who cares if it's 'just a letter' that is AMAZING! I hope one day I can say the stuff that you can; you're a paid writer!

  5. Congratulations! Frame that £25 cheque (or at least a photocopy of it). It will cement a fond memory even when you are banking ones with loads of zeros on the end.

  6. Amy, thanks. I wish you all the best that you can soon say the same thing.

Philip, yes I plan to scan it. Save it eternally on the cyber space - but I have to receive the check yet. They pay after publication. But it's the most anxiously awaited £25.

  7. Woohoo, congrats. I probably need to follow your example, get working on getting something published somewhere too, even if its just a letter or short story.
